Chain repair on the road

Carry a spare chain link (or better, two, with an inner link portion attached) inside your handlebars. If you have a chain-breakage, you may need to remove side-plates, don't bother carrying a link-remover. Force the blade of a penknife behind the plate to get it off.

Stay clean

Take latex gloves to wear in case of needing to maintain your cycle on route. Punctures happen miles away from washbasins.
